What’s So Great About Video Sales Letters?

What’s so great about video sales letters?  You don’t have read anything, that’s what!  And people love that.  Not that they don’t like reading but there are ton of things any given person has read all day long whether they work or are in school, surfing the net – videos are a welcome relief.  Certainly the popularity of YouTube would support that notion.  And now days, if you are selling anything online, the use of video is essential.  You need videos on YouTube so that prospects can find you there – YouTube is the number two search engine behind big ol Google, y’all…and with a lot less content so it’s much easier for a prospect to find you there, if you have keyword optimized tiles for your YouTube videos.  You also need videos on your site.  A video on your front page is an excellent way to hook your prospect in and get them to take the next step in you sales funnel.

Ok, so people love watching videos but video marketing is big for er, a much bigger reason.  Videos engage people much better than text.  Actually, I shouldn’t say that.  What I should say is that it’s much easier to engage people with a video than text.  Text is just text.  With video you have text, moving graphics, live presentation, music, and sound effects, which makes it much easier to create a rich and engaging experience.

Another powerful thing that video does is that it sets the pace.  As opposed to the reader who sets their own pace, taking pauses, allowing more of their own thoughts and ideas come into the picture.  This is actually one of the pleasures of reading a good book – an experience that you don’t get when you see the movie that has everyone saying, “The book was much better.”  But when you want to dominate their thoughts and emotions, video is the thing.  And that’s certainly something you want to do when you sell.

This has brought about a revolution in online direct response marketing, namely the big ol long sales letter which is text based.  Now you’ll often see a video version of the sales letter at the top – or in many cases, just the video.  It’s accepted all around that the video sales letter has increased conversion for products that once just used text sales letters.

Over the last couple of years my work as a copywriter has switched from writing text sales letters to video sales letters.  Sometimes clients still want the text version and that’s cool, I’m happy to provide it.  But I have to say, making the video sales letters is the really fun part.  We’re putting on a show! and I love bringing the magic, richness and engagement factor of film, ah, I mean video, to your screen.
